Maranda High School asked to be accompanied by their parent or guardian and show proof of having undergone a drug test on opening day.
The school had directed that the Maranda High School students shall undergo a drug and substance test at home before they are readmitted back.
Also, each student will be required to pay fine of Sh5,125 for the reconstruction of the dormitory razed down by fire. All fees and charges for reconstruction should be cleared before re-admission.
The school sent a message to all parents a week ago from the school’s Chief Principal Edwin Namachanja. He all students will have to take a drug and substance test while before entry to school.
“This must be done at a public health facility or NACADA. The certificates of the same are to be presented on the re-opening day. Subsequently, there shall be random testing conducted by the school.”
In January this year, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha said that the government shall start conducting drug tests on students to eradicate drug abuse in schools.
